SAN FRANCISCO EVENT - September 7, 2012
The DLSE's GROWING ARSENAL
What Every Employer Needs to Know
Join the experts for a panel discussion of two recent developments in California employment law: the Wage Theft Protection Act and the new Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (DLSE) Criminal Investigation Unit.
Panelists will address:
Best practices for complying with Wage Theft Protection Act notice requirements
Overview of the Criminal Investigation Unit’s authority, mission and priorities
What employers can do to avoid the ire of the Criminal Investigation Unit
The Wage Theft Protection Act, took effect in 2012. It requires employers to give new specific non-exempt, non-union hires notice with information about wages and pay practices, establishes new penalties for non-compliance, and extends the statute of limitations for the DLSE to collect statutory penalties from 1 to 3 years.

The DLSE’s recently launched Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU) is responsible for investigating "wage theft and other criminal activities against workers,” making arrests for Labor Code violations, filing criminal charges, and serving subpoenas and inspection warrants. The CIU is comprised of sworn law enforcement officers.
