INSIDE DIVERSITY V

JOIN THE CONVERSATIONMOVING BEYOND DIVERSITY

Legal departments and law firms today know that to effectively retain and develop diverse talent we must move beyond diversity to true inclusion. But how does an inclusive talent management strategy become reality? How does an organization support the effort to retain and manage the best diverse talent? Why does it sometimes feel like we’re taking one step forward and two steps back?

DLA Piper, ACC-SoCal and California Minority Counsel Program (CMCP) invite you to an evening of open dialog examining steps that legal organizations are taking to insure diverse talent is developing and filling leadership positions. Nationally recognized diversity and inclusion expert and author, Vernā Myers, will lead an open exchange on what works, what doesn’t, and steps you can take immediately to advance real change in your organization. The conversation will be followed by presentation of the 2012 Profiles IN Diversity Award and a networking reception.

2012 PROFILES IN DIVERSITY AWARDEE

Arthur Chong, Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, Broadcom Corporation. Known as a strong business leader who knows how to get things done, Art is a vanguard of diversity in the legal profession. A speech at a minority counsel conference in 2006 in which he stated that he once barred a law firm from bidding on corporate work because of its indifference to diversity, is often cited as one of the early rallying calls in the advancement of diversity and inclusion within the legal industry.
