Dorothy has been representing public and private employers with unionized and non-unionized workforces since 1999. She represents clients in a wide variety of industries, such as the ready-mix, aggregates and cement industries, federal defense contractors, educational institutions, and clients in the health care industry. Dorothy has extensive experience leading class action defense litigation in state and federal courts on issues ranging from meal and rest break claims to off-the-clock, overtime, and wage-and-hour issues, including defending against prevailing wage claims. She also handles benefits litigation and regularly defends employers against claims of whistleblower retaliation, race and gender discrimination, sexual harassment, disability discrimination, breach of contract and wrongful termination in single-plaintiff and multiple-plaintiff lawsuits. In addition, Dorothy’s practice includes handling labor arbitrations and negotiating collective bargaining agreements, and she represents employers on a regular basis before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Department of Fair Employment and Housing, and the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement. Dorothy frequently advises employers on California Labor Code compliance, workplace investigations, leaves of absence and disability accommodations, employee discipline and terminations. She routinely drafts separation agreements and personnel policies tailored to each client’s needs.
