Dr. Oscar F. Cervantes is a nationally recognized expert in cross-cultural issues and has spent his life and career dedicated in service of underprivileged ethnic minorities, particularly in the Latino community. As a Clinical Psychologist and faculty member of UCSF Medical School, he brings a unique perspective to organizational behavior in support of ZentLaw’s diversity initiatives.
Dr. Cervantes has been a valued consultant and member of the ZentLaw team since 2007, serving as the firm’s Diversity Director. In this role, he is instrumental in driving ZentLaw’s key diversity initiatives focused on these three areas: recruitment, advancement and outreach.
Since ZentLaw is a certified diversity law firm and an equal opportunity employer, the commitment to diversity has been at the firm’s core since inception over 10 years ago, as evidenced by its first hire being an attorney of color. Dr. Cervantes has refined and continues to expand upon the recruitment practices for ZentLaw in reaching minority counsel and staff, including attorneys of color, women, disabled, and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) attorneys.
In addition, Dr. Cervantes is responsible for the design, implementation and oversight of ZentLaw’s professional development and mentoring programs for the advancement of the firm’s minority counsel. ZentLaw’s mentoring programs are designed to integrate new associates of all backgrounds into the firm by providing them with access to resources, a dedicated mentor, opportunities to work directly with key clients, and focused career enhancement guidance.
Dr. Cervantes is also responsible for leading ZentLaw’s diversity outreach efforts in a number of areas. By partnering with certain minority counsel organizations under Dr. Cervantes’ leadership, ZentLaw continues to share and benefit from best practices in professional development and mentoring of minority counsel. He has promoted our pipeline efforts to encourage law students of color to pursue the practice of law in the areas that ZentLaw serves. In addition, Dr. Cervantes oversees entry into special programs available to ZentLaw as a diversity firm. Under Dr. Cervantes’ stewardship, ZentLaw continues to grow as a leader in the advancement of diversity and inclusion in the legal community.
