Leslie Ellis has extensive experience advising California employers, executives, and human resources professionals. She conducts workplace and Title IX investigations and provides legal advice on all aspects of state and federal employment law. Leslie’s areas of specialty include disability accommodations, harassment, retaliation, whistleblower claims, privacy, wage-hour compliance, reorganizations, layoffs, and traditional labor law matters.
Leslie partners with employers to ensure employment law compliance, from comprehensive, all-inclusive reviews to targeted analysis of high-risk employment issues. She provides employment law training programs and serves as an independent investigator of sensitive issues, including complaints of workplace harassment as well as investigations into concerns of fraud and compliance and sexual assault in the workplace and on campus. Additionally, she negotiates and prepares employment agreements and separations, and assists employers with developing and implementing workplace policies and procedures. Leslie also represents companies and executives in pre-litigation employment disputes, including administrative claims, attorney demand letters, and mediations.
Prior to co-founding Ellis Buehler Makus, Leslie worked in the nationally recognized employment law department of Paul Hastings, where she counseled and litigated for employers across all industries. In addition, she served as in‑house employment counsel at a major California healthcare system.
Leslie received her Juris Doctorate from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, and her bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
