ROBERT H. McNEILL, JR. obtained his undergraduate degree from Virginia State College in 1962. He did postgraduate work in Public Administration at California State University, Los Angeles. Mr. McNeill obtained his Juris Doctorate Degree from Southwestern University Law School in December 1978. He is one of the founding partners of Ivie, McNeill & Wyatt, A Professional Law Corporation, and has held the position of President since 1994 and continuing.
In May of 1979, Mr. McNeill was admitted to the State Bar of California. He has served as a Deputy City Attorney for the City of Los Angeles and as Deputy District Attorney for the County of Los Angeles. He was appointed to the Los Angeles County Commission on Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs in 1993 on the nomination of County Supervisor Yvonne B. Burke, and served more than three 4-year terms until his resignation in 2008. Mr. McNeill served as a Deputy County Assessor from 1963 to 1977. He served as a member of the Los Angeles County Capital Case Fee Committee from 1993 to 1998 by appointment of the Supervising Judge of the Los Angeles Municipal Court. Mr. McNeill was appointed to the Board of Directors of the California Science Center in Exposition Park by California Governor Gray Davis in 2001 for a four-year term. He remained on the Board after the election of Governor Schwarzenegger due to his involvement with important pending issues. He was elected by the Board of Directors to serve as a member of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Commission.
Mr. McNeill has tried numerous jury trials during his legal career. He has successfully litigated matters in federal and state courts in the areas of personal injury, medical malpractice, contract, business commercial disputes, real estate, criminal, construction defect, civil litigation, and family law. He served as co-counsel in the successful litigation of a multimillion dollar health care class action lawsuit on behalf of insured men and women which settled in 1999 and has won multimillion dollar awards/settlements for Personal Injury clients. He successfully defended two death penalty cases in the Los Angeles County Superior Court, one of which he obtained not guilty verdicts on all charges which consisted of four counts of first degree murder with special circumstances. Mr. McNeill and co-counsel Edi Faal successfully defended a pediatric dentist against more than 40 felony and 25 misdemeanor counts of child endangerment in a jury trial against the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office. Mr. McNeill successfully litigated a construction defect and breach of contract case on behalf of a non-profit, community-based organization.
