UC Berkeley Law McBaine Moot Court Competition
Call for Volunteer Judges
UC Berkeley Law School is seeking diverse volunteer judges for its flagship internal moot court competition for 2Ls and 3Ls involving both written and oral advocacy. Judges are sought for the preliminary rounds, Monday March 17 and Wednesday March 19.
Judges may also be needed for the quarterfinals on Monday March 31 and the semifinals on April 3 (preferably real-life judges for these later rounds). Dinner for the judges (of all kinds) will start at 5:30pm at the Law School, and rounds start around 6:30pm.
The problem this year is US v. Nosal, a case that was taken up by the Ninth Circuit en banc (but never appealed) that asked the question of whether employees who violate terms-of-use policies at their companies commit federal crimes. The question bears on everything from using a friend’s Facebook password to obtaining confidential government documents and turning them over to the press.
