What is the state of diversity
and inclusion in the legal
profession in the US?

Is it different in San Diego? Please join the Institute for Inclusion in the Legal Profession ("IILP") and the California Minority Counsel Program ("CMCP") for a symposium to discuss the state of diversity and inclusion in the legal profession. Hear the most current data and statistics available. Learn about the diversity within diversity. Participate in a discussion about current strategies and efforts and how they might best be implemented or advanced in San Diego.
Speakers will include:
Lawrence Baca, former Deputy Director, Office of Tribal Justice, U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division on "American Indians in the Diversity Discourse";
Paula Pearlman, Executive Director, Disability Rights Legal Center, on "Consciously Overcoming Unconscious Biases Against Lawyers with Disabilities";
Gabriele Plickert, American Bar Foundation Researcher, on "Comparing Professional Work and Personal Lives of Female Lawyers in U.S. and German Cities";
Jamie Sinclair, Associate, Goldstein Rikon Rikon & Houghton, P.C. on "Who's on Law Review?"

Robert King Fong is a 3rd generation Sacramentan and proud father of two. Mr. Fong earned a political science degree with Phi Beta Kappa distinction from U.C. Berkeley in 1981. He graduated from King Hall in 1984, and practiced civil litigation and business law until 2009 with the law firm, Ryan & Fong. At present, Mr. Fong works as a lobbyist and consultant with RFK Consulting.

Mr. Fong was elected to the Sacramento City Unified School District Board of Trustees in 1998 and served as Board President from 2003 through April 2004. In March 2004, he was elected to the Sacramento City Council. In 2006, he was elected Vice Mayor. Mr. Fong was reelected to serve a second term on the City Council in June 2008.

Currently, Mr. Fong is a member of the Regional Water Authority, Regional Human Rights/Fair Housing Commission, Regional County Sanitation District, Sacramento Transportation Authority, Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District, the Waterfront Advisory Committee and numerous other boards serving the resident of the Sacramento area.

Mr. Fong has also started two non-profit organizations: the Hemispheres Arts Academy and Faith and Homeless Families.
